Mock Race (dated : 29 Apr 2010)

Spectrum racing folks had a mock race today ..
Here is the nurration of it from Shakes-beer :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Had a great ride. Amrish and I raced Ravi and Mohan on the TT road. I think doing a mock race occasionally (I don't know how well the training plan will pan out) is a really *good* idea. The dynamics of a race are so different from any of the training rides we do.

Coming to the ride itself, we started really strong. 9 kms into the race, Mohan's front wheel overlapped Ravi's on a fast corner and down our man went. In a heart-stopping moment I saw Amrish jump over Mohan. Thankfully, my brakes were good enough that I did not run over Mohan's head. Those couple of seconds are so clearly imprinted in my head. Mohan's helmet took some beating and his yellow jersey's torn at the shoulder. He got away with scratches and probably a stiff neck for the next few days. We had done the 9 km at 37.5 kph. We took the next couple of kilometers easy and then re-started the race. As I had expected, Ravi and Mohan sprinted to the finish :) Amrish did a great job of pulling the whole lot of us for a loooong way near the fag end. I had done the 19.5-odd km @ 33.4 kph at the end.

Lessons:
* Mohan's a sport and a really tough cookie
* Amrish's reflexes are awesome
* Ravi's sense of race strategy is pretty acute
* I've got pretty decent brakes!

Have an awesome day, folks.

Abvious Improvement

I see some obvious improvments in my cycling.
I was much better earlier in cycling ... but looks like somethings changed the way i puhed the pedal. I heard somewhere that the bosy needs to be stable when you pedal and i tried to make it stiff rather than stable. So i started taking help of my calf more than other muscles .. whcih i realize it now. My physio at Spectrum Phy center poin it out and i am working to stengthen other muscles of leg and core muscles. He is also working with me on balancinf excercises usinf swiss balls. I hopw ti better my ranking in bangalore-bicycle-championships.

Story of the beer shakin (Sakesbeer)

As you know we had BBCh-3 race of the seasion on last sunday (18-Apr-2010). Following were the positions of the team members in first 10
Gaurav (Rocket Singh) Dwivedi :                5th or 6th (i am not sure)
Amrish Kapoor                         :                7th
Ravi (me)                                  :                9th (0.01 sec ahead of Arvind ) hehehe
Arvind                                       :               10th
and in wemen's catagory Manjula took the podium :)

We were happy as this is our first seasion and we are 4 of us in the first 10 .. not bad at all!

Now that called for a celebration ... !
This where the shakes-beer came in action ... she suggested this place called "Bhagini-Barrel" which was not far from the race venue. We all assembled Barrel again, which is where Ullas shook loads of beer. Now very logically we went and baptised him with holy water (read that as beer) and named him shakes-beer.
    Now you will say he is shakes-beer because he lives his name only with spectrum racing team. You must be joking ..! If you work for sap-labs ... you will know what i am saying, because this shakes-beer works for them.
So next time you see him .... Bow down!

My second BBCh

I did a lil better than the last time .. but i need to improve a lot!
Race Rout:
The route of the race was moderate for in terms of difficulty, and the total distance was 50Kms. There was one major climb of about 300-400Meters of a gradiant of 9% ... where we saw many bikers pushing their bikes. There was an amazinf and alomost strainght downhill, whare majority of the bikers would have broken their previous record of hoighest speed. I touched 72Kms/hour :)

As a Team :
The spectrum racing that i am part of, had a strategy that did not work because after 10Kms we did  not have a trace of our team members other than me and Dr. Aravind. But me and Doc were togather for most of part. we left behind a lot of bikers ...!
How was it for me:
I enjoyed the race but not happy with result :) .. as usual unstisfied soul .... I finished the route in a min lesser than 100 minutes .. well not bad .,.. the average speed was just above 30 :( .. stood 9th for this race.
METhink :
I need to do a lot of hill training .. i am pathetic at that .. and u also need to imptrove my lung capacity. ... I am am going to make it all happen by next race .. !! I will see it here on this page :)

Now That I am a biker

Now that i am biker more than a runner i will blog here!!
and not at my earlier blog which was more concentrated towards running.
